John founded JFM OPS Consulting, LLC, focusing on early-stage for-profit growth companies and small/mid-size non-profit organizations. Analyzing and implementing the operational and financial requirements of such businesses in order to help them succeed is where my expertise lies. I can work with people at any level of the organization to address strategic issues and operational/organizational needs.
For Profit Experience
With regard to for-profit companies, I have worked with teams to set up the operational, financial, organizational, and system foundations while allowing the rest of the company to focus on revenue generation, product development, and growth. Led five technology-based companies as a full-time COO and consulted for over 20 for-profit companies as an interim CEO/COO/CFO.
Non-Profit Experience
With regard to non-profit organizations, fifteen years ago, as a Board Member, I joined a great non-profit organization called Boundless Readers, a Chicago-based organization focused on teaching the love of reading to Chicago Public School (CPS) students. I later became the Chairperson and then managed their merger with another great organization Working in the Schools (WITS), where I am an Executive Committee Board Member. This merger has been one of the most successful non-profit mergers in Chicago and has been used in a case study to help guide other non-profit organizations contemplating a merger. I have sat on panels to explain the process that we went through. I also consulted with a national, education-focused non-profit organizations. I worked with the Executive Director and senior team to perform a financial forensic analysis. Once completed, I developed an organizational, system, and process plan to help the organization deliver its services through improved financial management and visibility.
Interim CEO/COO/CFO Experience
With my extensive operational background, I have consulted for companies that need leadership with their operational/financial controls and departmental coordination. I help companies grow intelligently by monitoring their financial and operational results while working with the senior management and boards on strategic issues as an interim 'CEO/COO/CFO for hire.'
About John
I handle chaos, and I love to handle chaos. At 31, I became the Chief Operation Officer (COO) of my first early-stage company. Since then, I have worked with for-profit growth companies for the last 25 years to build an efficient operating infrastructure. I have simultaneously worked for the last 10 years helping lead non-profit organizations. In all these organizations, I have leveraged my operational and financial experience to help these organizations achieve their missions and expand their impact.
Since joining my first start-up in 1998, many entrepreneurs have asked me to work with and mentor them in translating business concepts into actual companies.
I am always looking to assist entrepreneurs in bringing their ideas to the next stage.
